Thanks for helping Samantha!

Samantha-story

I told our Israel Fellow that I wanted to be able to do everything I could to support Israel. I ran full force into this place when I learned about all the ways I could do this through Hillel!

The next thing I knew, I was on the SDSU October 7th Memorial planning team, which meant so much to me. Being a part of the October 7th planning meant I got to meet and really know the other student leaders. It made me feel connected. I also made my best friends through that experience! I now come to Hillel every single day.”

Sam first heard about Hillel through her mom, who had attended Hillel at Long Beach State. Sam called her after the Fall Welcome Back BBQ to tell her that hundreds of students were there that night. Hillel is THE place to go for Jewish students.

Sam’s family knows that she’s safe and cared for. Recently, there was a fire near SDSU. Luckily, Sam wasn’t at her apartment, but the window in her room had been left open, and there was smoke damage. Sam couldn’t stay there.

“The Hillel staff were there for me! I could have driven home to L.A. but they found me a safe, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay with an amazing family! The family texted me a week later to check on me. It was such a special experience!

Hillel is my home now. I’m always welcome here. The Hillel staff make me feel like they always have my back. It feels so good to know that Hillel is there to support and guide me.”

Incident at Hillel of San Diego Today

January 6, 2026

Hope you are having a great start to your 2026. At Hillel of San Diego, our highest priority is, and will always be, the safety of Jewish students.

Over the past few months, an individual repeatedly harassed Hillel San Diego, prompting us to obtain a restraining order. Today, that individual attempted to break into our Melvin Garb Hillel Center and left an unidentified package.

You Made it Possible. Now We Must Sustain it.

December 21, 2025

Over the past five years, and especially since October 7th, this community has shown up in extraordinary ways. Your leadership made it possible for Hillel of San Diego to respond immediately and decisively in moments of crisis, expanding support, strengthening safety, and meeting students in their most vulnerable moments. Thank G-d you did. Because of you, students know exactly where to turn — and they know they will not be turned away.

Why Hillel of San Diego Matters Right Now

December 19, 2025

As we enter the final days of Hillel of San Diego’s year-end efforts to raise $500,000 by December 31, our family is proud to stand with this community and publicly join this effort to strengthen Jewish life on San Diego’s campuses. We do so while holding two truths at once. We are celebrating the light and resilience of Hanukkah, even as we grieve the tragedies and violence that have shaken Jewish communities in recent days. Joy and heartbreak coexist. For Jewish students, that tension is not abstract but rather something they are navigating every day on campus
