Peace in Israel Week Day 1 Let’s Go!

israel

The day started with massive joy as we all celebrated the rescue of Edan Alexander. Every time a hostage comes home is a miracle.

Library Walk is the center thoroughfare of campus. During the day, Hillel’s Tritons for Israel hosted a massive experiential display complete with a live DJ, wall of photos, and many educational materials to teach the UCSD community about October 7th through the lens of the Nova Festival. Our amazing student leaders handed out fliers, danced to the beats, and engaged in meaningful conversations.

One student who came up to our tables commented,The Israel Week set-up is so cool. I wasn’t really looking to get involved in this, but like, now I want to learn more.

I want you to look at these photos and see the spark in our students’ eyes, their empowerment, their confidence. It really was a testament to their passion, drive, and dedication to our Jewish people.

That night, Tritons for Israel took over The Loft, a music venue with a dance club vibe, for a Nova Tribute dance party. Complete with a henna tattoo station, a place to make memorial bracelets, a Photo Booth, and an Israeli DJ, students danced the night away in honor of those who were murdered at Nova on 10/7/23.

I think the best part of Monday was seeing the pride and joy in our students’ faces. They danced with Israeli flags without fear. They welcomed other students with grace. They showed strength and confidence.

It was a great start to the week.

Tonight, we have our largest event—the Jules and Gwen Knapp Family presents Holy Land, Unholy Comedy with Yohay Sponder. Bringing in a comedian is strategic. It’s a bold initiative aimed at engaging the entire student body while also bringing the broader community to campus. The event features an edgy comedian unafraid to tackle antisemitism and Israel through humor.

Stay tuned for more updates on what you help make possible through your support of Hillel. Remember, every dollar goes directly to making students’ lives better— thank you for helping Peace in Israel Week become a reality!
