Incident at Hillel of San Diego Today

Hillel-San-Diego-News-logo
Good Afternoon,

Hope you are having a great start to your 2026. At Hillel of San Diego, our highest priority is, and will always be, the safety of Jewish students.

Over the past few months, an individual repeatedly harassed Hillel San Diego, prompting us to obtain a restraining order. Today, that individual attempted to break into our Melvin Garb Hillel Center and left an unidentified package. Our staff immediately alerted our Defend48 security team, who contacted law enforcement. The individual was arrested, and the incident remains under investigation.

We are grateful that no one was harmed and for the swift response and coordination from multiple parties including the San Diego and SDSU Police Departments, Secure Community Network and the Jewish Federation, Defend48, and the SDSU Administration. We’ve increased security measures as well.

Hillel of San Diego remains steadfast in our mission to support Jewish student life and will continue to act decisively to keep our community safe.

Thank you for being part of Hillel of San Diego and supporting this vital work.

Warmly,
Karen Parry
