Confronting Antisemitism

Jewish students in San Diego are facing a campus climate that can feel increasingly hostile. Protests, graffiti, online harassment, and disruptions of Jewish life are becoming more common.

Students have told us they often feel singled out, unsafe, or silenced simply for being Jewish.

That’s why Hillel of San Diego launched our Campus Impact Initiative: a first-of-its-kind initiative to protect and advocate for Jewish students at UC San Diego, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, Cal State San Marcos, and community colleges across the region.

This work is about more than responding when something goes wrong. It’s about building a culture of safety, accountability, and pride for Jewish students.

How We Respond

Hillel of San Diego is present on every campus we serve. Through our Impact team, we:

  • Support and advocate for students who experience harassment, intimidation, or bias, ensuring they are never alone in navigating campus systems.
  • Collaborate with universities to hold them accountable for protecting Jewish life and ensuring compliance with their own nondiscrimination policies and federal civil rights obligations.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and community partners to safeguard Jewish spaces and prevent escalation.
  • Educate faculty, administrators, and peers about antisemitism, Jewish identity, and the importance of inclusion.
  • Build strong coalitions across campus communities to ensure that Jewish students have allies and support, even in moments of crisis.
  • Celebrate Jewish life joyfully and proudly, because the best response to hate is a thriving, visible Jewish community.

Report Antisemitism

Antisemitism and hate have no place on campus.

When you share an incident with us, Hillel can provide direct support, track patterns across campuses, and ensure universities are doing their part to create safe and inclusive environments for all students.

You Are Not Alone

Every Jewish student deserves to feel safe, supported, and proud of their identity.

Hillel of San Diego is here for you. Together, we will make sure Jewish students not only feel secure, but truly thrive.

Hillel allowed me to explore the diversity of Jewish joy by engaging in rich cultural and religious practices, but more than anything it gave me a community for a lifetime. Although I am from San Diego, Hillel gave me a second mishpacha - of friends with whom I bonded over having Jewish identity. We amplified our pride in being Jewish while bonding over the affairs of everyday life, and I can't thank Hillel enough for that.

Hillel is different than other opportunities for students on campus because it's more welcoming and the members end up becoming friends fairly quickly. Because of Hillel I found the most welcoming Jewish community I haven't quite experienced before.

Hillel is the place where I met my best friends and built a network that has shaped my college experience. It is my second home, a place where I can find constant unwavering support, genuine community, and opportunities to thrive. I am constantly inspired by the staff and the students here, and I truly feel a sense of belonging every time I walk through the doors.

Walking into Hillel for the first time as a non-Jew, I was met with incredible kindness. Everyone was so welcoming, showing me around the building and inviting me to upcoming events. It's become a true safe space for me and somewhere I can study and grab a snack before class. Even though I'm not Jewish, it genuinely feels like a home away to me.
